Carcinogenics

Other Reasons for Cancer: Carcinogenic Substances (WHO Report)

What are carcinogenic substances?

In addition to the external "environmental factors" comprising 80-90% of the causes of cancer such as carcinogenic substances, exposure to irradiation, and virus, instances in lowering of immune functions caused by heredity, agedness, change in lifestyle are internal factors.

According to a report from World Health Organization (WHO), 35% of carcinogenic substances are derived from food and drinks, and 30% are from smoking as the second rank.

When speaking of carcinogenic substances, usually the impression relates to food additives and agricultural chemicals, chemicals and so on. What exactly do these stuffs relate ?

First of all, let me simply explain the process in which carcinogenic substances give rise to cancerous cells and tumors due to external factors.

There are the first stage (initiation) and second stage (promotion) in the carcinogenic process, whereby carcinomatosis is formed by chemical substances.

(1) Drugs

Some of the tranquilizer used to pacify anxiety and antibiotics, antipyretics, analgesic etc. may lead to malfunction of the liver, even causing liver cancer. Some anti-cancer medicines are themselves inductive to carcinomatosis. The agricultural chemicals on the vegetables are also undeniably carcinogenic in nature.

(2) Heredity

Cancers that are recognized to be connected with heredity are. the carcinomas of large intestine converted from "familial polyposis of large intestine" and "omentum buds tumour" as the 2 species of carcinomas.
Some people believe that "leukemia", "kidney buds cell tumour" "multiple swellings of endocrine glands" are related to heredity. Other examples are cancers caused by complications (carcinoma of stomach, carcinoma of endometrium, mammary cancer etc) of "carcinoma of large intestine" due to gene factors.

(3) Natural surroundings, careers

Leaking of irradiation and exposure to radioactive rays from accidental failure of an atomic power station are causation to skin carcinoma and leukemia. Especially, skin carcinoma caused by ultraviolet irradiation has aroused much concern recently. To study this further,
we are constantly exposed to microscopic amount of irradiation from the universe. Factory smokes, production wastes, vehicle emission, asbestos dusts are recognized to be carcinogenic. Also, current special situations often relate to workers, who get carcinomas frequently, due to special duties requiring exposure to carcinogenic substances of chemicals and radiology.
Career diseases have become major social problems.

(4) Viruses causing cancers

Viruses are one of the causes of cancer, such as EB virus causing malignant lymph tumours, C virus causing liver cancer, virus causing adult T cells leukemia, etc. These viruses are often caught from blood.. But don't worry, since the examination for blood transfusion is very stringent. We also discover that the HIV virus in Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) may also cause cancer in view of inadequate immunity.

(5) Links with sex habits

It can be said that "mammary cancer" and "carcinoma of uterus" , as representatives of female cancers, are regarded to be connected with sex habits of female.
High-aged women of over 30 in first pregnancy, premature birth or single-women, early menarche,
delayed menoolipsis, adiposity, family disease cases and so on are major factors for mammary cancer. Major causes for carcinoma of uterus are early marriage, multiparous, juvenile sexual behaviours, sexual conducts with several male, inhygene of the vulva, infection of papular virus and so on. Modern females are strong in character with high targets of life.
Thus, late marriage and high-aged pregnancy are increasing steadily, attributing to the cause of
mammary cancer at an increasing rate. There is a tendency of a decline in the carcinoma of uterus, once used to occupy a higher ratio. This can be evidenced by the factors causing mammary cancer and carcinoma of uterus. Moreover, disequilibrium in hormones is one of
the causes for mammary cancer. Hormones resulted from taking contraceptives (pills) are related to mammary cancer.
Moreover, cancers are directly proportional to four-fold of age, with higher incidence on older age. The internal factors of having all such carcinogenic substances accumulated in the body, in line with the decline in immunologic functions, should not be ignored as causes of carcinomatosis.
